Le Monde Béryl began in Venice in 2016, with a single shoe. Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin found themselves drawn to the slippers worn by the city's gondoliers. A soft velvet shoe, originally made from recycled scraps of fabric and tyre rubber, practical enough for a moving boat and beautiful enough for a palazzo. The Venetian Slipper became the brand's first design, and the foundation of everything since.
The founders describe their philosophy as Beauty in Movement. Shoes that travel light but far. Special, but not precious. Pieces made to be worn every day and kept for years.
The Shoes
The Venetian Slipper remains the signature, now joined by Mary Janes, Luna and Stella slippers, babouche kittens, loafers and boots. Velvet, silk satin, suede and leather, in colours drawn from antiquities, architecture, dance and cinema. The shapes are classic. The details are what make them collectible.
These are not seasonal shoes. A pair of Venetians bought a decade ago still looks current, and that longevity is the entire point.
The Making
Every pair is made in Italy, by family-owned workshops that have passed their skills down through generations. The leathers and textiles are Italian and traceable. Deadstock fabric is used wherever possible. The brand does not produce more than it can sell.
Production stays close to its materials, which keeps air freight to a minimum. Packaging is plastic-free, reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.
